  • It stayed as true to the era it was built as possible. A little expensive but very nice.

The location was spectacular. The food and drinks were awesome. The room was small, bed was small and uncomfortable, minimal amenities and it was dirty on the baseboards.

The Prince of Wales hotel provides unparalleled views of the majestic Waterton Lakes and the surrounding rocky mountains. Rustic in nature, it is a unique historic hotel conveying both grandeur and comfort. In addition to the hotel's unique history, construction and location, the staff, especially Dayna who worked at the front desk, made our stay even more special with her assistance, helpful suggestions and extra attention.

    Amazing

Amazing views— it may not have all of the creature comforts of a modern hotel, but it was a fantastic experience to stay in such a historic hotel. The Restaurant in the hotel is also a winner.

Great room, great view, great staff. Whomever was responsible for hiring the 2020 seasonal staff this year really did well. Everyone we interacted with was top-drawer, from the from desk to the bellmen to the bartenders to the restaurant staff. Of particular note is Janeque (and I apologize if I have miss-spelled). She was amazing and deserves a full commendation from management for her attitude, thoroughness, attentiveness and thoughtfulness. It was our 30th anniversary and she really helped make it special.

Style of the hotel. Food. Was not told there was a bar menu and therefore walked into town to make reservations and back to town later to eat as the fine dining menu was very limited. Did not inform guests until arrival that breakfast was an order the night before and takeaway service. Not what is required prior to a long drive.

Check off a Bucket List Item

As other reviewers have mentioned, this is an older majestic hotel with a spectacular view. We didn't have a lake view room, so we enjoyed the view of the lake while sitting in the lobby until the sun went down. The sun was replaced with a terrific view of the moon shining down on the lake and over the Waterton town site. We did this while enjoying wine and a well priced and generous sized charcuterie board served by friendly staff. When we did finally go up to our room, we used the WiFi to watch a Netflix on our computer. So if you really need a TV, bring a tablet or laptop. The staff from the front desk, to the bellman, to the bartenders and servers in both the lounge and the dining room did a great job making us feel welcome despite COVID conditions. Our room had a completely renovated bathroom/shower and an incredibly comfortable bed. Two very important things in any hotel room. If you go to this hotel knowing that it retains it's original charm and doesn't have A/C (open your window and use the fan) or TV, you will not be disappointed. (TIP: Enjoy High Tea in the dining room, walk along the lake and around the many stores downtown, add a boat trip around the lake, a hike up to Blakiston Falls, and get some photos of the beautiful Cameron Falls) and you have a perfect getaway)

This is a landmark historical property. It is essentially only updated in ways that meet codes and deliver very basic services to the rooms. Rooms are small, beds are good. Wifi is OK. TV is absent. Bathroom is small. Walls and ceiling are thin, privacy is scarce. Staff are friendly and apologetic as necessary..
