Days of heaven in Bergen
Memorable stay at the Bergen Harbour Hotel. I will set the scene: my girlfriend and I traversed the North Sea on a wintery Friday night for a spontaneous weekend in Norway. She was attracted by the beauty of the Fjords, and I (as a connoisseur of high art) by the art of Evard Munch. Or more importantly, to visit the country of Steffen Iversen (got the assist for Nielsen's Leagee Cup final winner against Leicester in 1999) and Bjørge Lillelien ("Your boy's took one helluva beating..." etc). In regards to accommodation, we did a bit of research online before and decided upon the Bergen Harbour Hotel, we were certainly not disappointed with this choice. The staff were very welcoming and warm. Edward on the bar (replete with Brummy accent) and his blonde-haired female colleague were paradigms of friendliness and went out of their way to assist us both on any concerns we had. And then there was the breakfast - a feast the like of you have rarely seen before. An eye-wateringly delectable array of options - all included in the price of the stay (which was eminently reasonable in the first place). All in all, our two nights there were a joy. I will leave it to my old pal and fellow countryman William W to describe: "Bliss was it, in that dawn, to be alive. But, to be young was very heaven."

Wonderful time at Bergen Harbour Hotel
We arrived at 11 am and Kiki, the front desk clerk was very accommodating. Even though it was before check in time, she had the cleaning crew prepare the room for us and offered us coffee while we waited. While the room was small, as advertised and expected, it was comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of choices to satisfy an American taste. In the morning, the front desk staff scheduled a taxi for us to the train station. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would stay here again.

Cute old town
Rainy, which is normal for the area, but pretty and lots nearby to walk to.
