Felt like an empress. :-)
Highly reccommend! This was one of the nicest ryokan/hotel/onsens I've ever stayed in! The facilities and amenities were fabulous, staff kind and helpful, and location near river was very nice. :-)

Good Ryokan, but not the best.
It is similar to other "modern take on Ryokan" hotels, such as Meguro Gajoen in Tokyo. However, compared to the best it lacks in many ways: 1. Limited services (no laundry, food selection etc.). 2. The area is quite far away from the downtown and most events. 3. The internal design is ambitious but with a few execution problems. The bed is so wide it barely fits in the room and getting on it is difficult. The shower room is huge, but the bathtub is not too deep, while toilet is simply miniscule. The rooms are planned with large westerners in mind, but many of the facilities have wooden planks sticking out at 6 feet level and you constantly bump your head into them. So it is a very good hotel, but NOT the best of this type in Tokyo. Meguro Gajoen is an example of much better planned rooms, as are a few others.

Phenomenal experience. Definitely coming back.
We had a superb experience and would definitely stay again. The staff was very helpful, the traditional Japanese breakfast was phenomenal and the amenities rivaled that of any 4 star hotel that I've ever been in. The closest train station and convenience store are just steps away and it is only 2 stops away from the heart of Shinjuku. I already plan on staying here again the next time I'm in Tokyo. A top notch experience all the way around.
