During the 2½ weeks we spent in Ireland, this would certainly have to be our most enjoyable accommodation venue. Mary Geraldine and Thomas are outstanding, friendly, accommodating and understanding hosts. Our room was perfect with a clear view over the large open forecourt/driveway (heaps of parking space) and the extensive front lawn (lots of room for children - if you have any - to let off steam; plus Shetland pony "Lucy" in the fenced paddock beyond. Heaps of room for walking on the huge property (200 farmed acres). Breakfast is a veritable feast: choice of juices, cereals, cooked (to order) hot items, etc., etc. They have lived in the area all their lives and are a treasure trove of local knowledge and places to visit. We had nothing planned for our 4-day stay, but ended up with a full, enjoyable and interesting itinerary. A day-trip to 12th. century Tintern Abbey and the magnificent medieval Hook Point Lighthouse is a typical example. It is also advisable to travel using a sat-nav. Ballinahoun House does not provide an evening meal, but there are a number of restaurants and pubs within 15-30 minutes drive, to suit most tastes. Ballinahoun House is a quiet relaxing place to spend a few days or just one if you are passing through. 5-star accommodation and hospitality at a 3-star price. My advice: jump on it now, before the word gets out.
