overall nice place, location near the docks was handy but bathrooms are a little run down and smelt of sick in our room

Enjoyed staying somewhere a bit different
Loved the idea of something different - and this place was. Check in was friendly and efficient. Rooms could do with a bit of love (especially the matress)... but it's perhaps unfair to critisise when it's meant to be 'olde worlde'. Didn't get to try the restaurant as it was booked out. Parking not very easy, as it's a bit of a walk. So, you need to think about wheeling your cases a few hundred metres... or illegally stop out front. We did the latter :)

Poor 2.0
Very disappointing
Usually stay in The Malmaison but thought we’d try 30 James St. Sadly we won’t be staying again. A number of reasons - wedding going on which took up the whole reception when we were trying to book in, unable to get a drink in the bar due to the wedding party coming in shortly. Nowhere else to get a drink in the hotel. Spa - can’t really call it that as just a pool and sauna, had to wait 45 mins to go in due to a big party not leaving. They charge £2.50 to hire a robe, even though u pay £10pp to use the facility. Showers in spa weren’t working. Light on bathroom mirror not working, dirty bed sheets and towels. No shower door so water went all over bathroom floor, no phone in room to call reception, I could go on and on and on. Overall very disappointing and won’t be staying again

Good Service, good staff.
It’s slightly different in it’s a bit quirky. The service is good, the staff very helpful, but some parts of the room are tired, particularly the bathrooms.

Nice place, but nothing special.
The hotel was nice and with the addition of a jacuzzi bath we were quite excited to stay. Unfortunately when we turned the bath on brown water came out of the taps. Even though we got rid of this, there was still quite a lot of brown bits in the bubbles. The mirror in the bathroom didn't work and due to the lack of lighting this made it difficult to get ourselves ready in the morning. We then also had neighbours who literally argued all through the night, resulting in us not sleeping much. Reception were notified and advised the guests but they carried on until checkout.
