Perfect location in the historical centre.
This hotel is right in the heart of the historical centre of Cartegena with balcony views directly on top of the street action. However, that means lots of street noise until late into the night. Also, it is necessary for hotel staff to let you in and out each time you enter or exit and this is somewhat inconvenient.

A nice hotel that could use keys to the front door
It is a very nice building on a busy street near the clock tower (and literally next door to a supermarket) that is the main entrance to the old city. At $135/night we thought it was a great value. The only real problem was the lack of a responsive concierge or front desk type professional. We had questions about tours and options for the cab to the airport and getting information took a long time. They also don't do daily housekeeping unless you leave your room unlocked when you leave, which was weird. You also have to escorted in and out of the building - you don't get a key to the front door which is kept locked 24/7. That was less of an issue than you'd think, if you knocked on the staff door there was always someone around, but better hope there is never a fire. The rooftop pool is tiny but refreshing. A potential issue is that it was just deep enough for my 4' 11" wife to have difficulty lifting herself out of it. However, overall, the rooftop was a nice asset where you could read or watch the condors up close. The shower in our room (Hindu) needs a new head but again, it was fine. The bed was extraordinary. The air conditioning was so powerful we had to turn it down a few times. The fridge and kitchen were very helpful even if we never made a full meal. The street noise is pretty pronounced all the time. If you want a quiet corner, don't stay there. We liked being in the active section, however.

Great example of Colombian service!
Overall it was great! The apartment (It was not just a room) is a duplex with kitchenette, dining table and beds to accommodate comfortably 8 people. It also has a balcony facing the street and a cute little pool in the roof, great to take a break. The people were excellent, they even arranged a parking spot nearby for our car since they don't have the space. There is a 24h market next door with everything you may need to snack or if you prefer to cook... We just got some beers and snacks :) Only 2 details not to give 5 stars: We were three couples and the description says it is a suite with three rooms, in reality there are 2 rooms and a den with two single beds on the way to the room upstairs, which was a little disappointed, since we were expecting 3 private rooms. The second detail is that the shower didn't drain properly and every time someone took a shower it was a big mess with water all over the bathroom (no division wall from shower to toilet). Definitely will go back given the opportunity and will recommend to anyone visiting Cartagena.
