Cool experience in Clayton
Great older hotel. We stayed here for the experience and did not regret it. Because of the age, things like creaky floors are a unique part of this hotel. The beds were comfortable but the lack of air made the room stuffy. Also, trains come through town during the night and are quite loud. But I would stay here again and would like to have a chance to try the restaurant

Go for historic experience!
This is a historic hotel, you stay here for the charm of being historic! It meets all your basic needs, but no frills! Hadn’t seen a box style tv in years, but we didn’t have time for tv! Loved the free water, local museum and character of the hotel. Morning breakfast a disappointment, cold eggs, no type bread/ sweets and had to ask for coffee to be refilled.

Thin Walls!
I’ve always thought the Eklund was a great place to stop but just recently decided to stay overnight. Aside from a poor restaurant experience (which was the least of worries) the stay was very uncomfortable. The walls were so thin they may has well had curtains between the rooms. We were on vacation and woken up at 530 in the morning with the noise next door. I’ll always stop in, but never stay there again. I understand they can’t reconstruct, but a gentle reminder when checking in about noise may have helped

Not for everyone
Breakfast was wonderful, even quiche. Clerk tried to charge me for an additional person even though I had paid for 3 people through the booking service. I showed her the booking confirmation and she agreed it appeared to be paid and did not charge me more. I did notice that i paid about $50 more than she quoted someone on the phone while I was standing there. Then, the restaurant closed at 8 pm and we got there about 7:40. It's the only place I saw to eat, so don't be late. This is a restored hotel so the rooms are old-fashioned, no closets, full sized beds, and VERY close to a train track. I would have appreciated a table or chair to put my clothes on in the bathroom. There were some cobwebs on the wall in the bathroom which kind of added to the ambiance. The power went off at.5:30 am and my husband's c-pap machine went off Everything turned out ok, but be flexible. The dining room ceiling is exquisite, and the restaurant is beautiful.

Good historic hotel
Nice hotel, very basic but very clean. Good wifi. The hotel restaurant is nice. There is a good included breakfast. If you are on the track side you will hear the trains. Think “My Cousin Vinny”!
