Despite reserving our room for graduation weekend nearly a year in advance, we were notified that our room was cancelled and rebooked at a hotel an hour away with one days notice.
I called, was put on hold for 30 minutes before being connected with someone who could not help. I called back spoke with a manager, who told me the cancellation was due to a maintenance issue and said staying in Bloomington was all she could do for us for the first two nights and booked us a room at her location for the third night. She comped all three nights. At this late date, we had no choice as all available local rooms were going for exorbitant rates.
So on the third night, we arrived at the hotel, got checked in only to put in a room where clearly someone had been smoking despite this hotel being non-smoking only. The desk clerk also said that the problem was not due to a maintence issue, but rather due to a communications issue with hotels.com. I am not one who puts much credence in social media, but there was a post stating that they had cancelled the rooms to get the high rates from the last minute travelers.
In any case, why was management not honest in communicating the reason for our booking? Why did they notify me only one day in advance. Why did the staff not catch the smelly room before giving it to us? Something smells bad here, not just the room. Nothing was going to put a danper on our celebration, but no thanks to Residence Inn.
Don't stay there.
