Good Location in the Loop
Good location in the loop, friendly and helpful staff, quality accommodations and plenty to see and do nearby.

Disappointing compared to others in the city
The hotel itself is really stylish but it doesn't have the homely feel of the Allegro. The bar was closed for private functions for our whole visit so we didn't even have the opportunity to sit at our own hotel bar over New Years. Our stay was OK but I don't think we'll stay here again sadly.

All very good. Comfortable and clean. Staff is excellent. I will always look for a room here first.

Above and beyond
Kimpton Grey goes above and beyond every time – this time it was the gentleman who over-poured my glass of wine at check in, saying it looked like I could use the heavy pour tonight; the lady who extended our check out when I called the front desk at check out time saying I’m not feeling well and needed extra time; and the gentleman who took our bags to the car was just top notch. These types of details are different (but equally as wonderful) each time we stay. They are what bring us back time and again.

Not the experience I was hoping for
We decided to stay at the Gray for NYE and just have a relaxing night after holiday travel. I booked a king room with a shower/tub combo and it only had a shower. Not a deal breaker but a little disappointing. They told us at check in that they have a complimentary wine hour from 5-6 so at about 5:30 we decided to go down (we weren’t in our ‘going out’ clothes yet because we didn’t have a dinner reservation until 8:15) and the woman serving drinks was insistent upon checking our ids. We went back up to the room to get them and when we came back down there were a few people in front of us and not one of them were carded. Annoying. We had dinner at the restaurant attached to the hotel on the first floor and were feeling like another drink to ring in the new year and as soon as we got off the elevator. The same woman that carded us was there to tell us that the bar was closed for a private event. Also annoying. We decided to just go back to the room and in the morning we were trying to sleep in and the cleaning people began knocking on our door at 8:30am on New Years Day??? We were checking out at 12 and I feel like they should have had access to this information but they knocked on the door once more at 10am and then asked when we would be checking out. It felt like we were not welcome with the combo of the wine hour thing, the rooftop bar being closed for a private event, and feeling like they were rushing us out in the morning, so I don’t think we will be staying here again.

Beautiful Hotel!
We finally found our favorite hotel! My husband and I spent the weekend in Chicago to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. I’m so happy that we found this gem. The staff was very friendly and offered great recommendations. Our room was beautiful! Modern, very clean and best of all you didn’t hear any outside noise. Parking was a bit expensive compared to other hotels but that isn’t a deal breaker. We will back!

A beautiful place. Welcoming staff. Loved that my dog could stay without having to pay extra, and the treats they made for them. She loved those! Also the morning coffee and cocoa and the wine/mulled wine was great! A beautiful sitting area. Two small issues I had were finding the ice. I had to call to find out where it was, and it still took me a while to find it. There are no signs except for the ice door itself. Also, the doggie water bowl was dirty and I wished they would have cleaned it and refilled it (at the reception area).
