With the Olympics opening ceremonies happening, affordable hotels were scarce. Originally, the notice about being a "love motel" gave me pause but because of the higher review ratings, we booked it anyway. We found out that this facility changed to a hotel about 1-2 years ago, so that turned out to be no issue. The bathroom area was tiled nicely, the room clean, secure, and larger than expected. Inside the hotel hallway door is a sitting area where you can have room service bring any food you may order, which comes from the Senado Cafe next door. Farther in, is a second door to the full room itself. We booked a double bed, but it was more like a queen/king in size...nice surprise. Be aware that the bed is more of a platform bed, and is very firm. Also, the pillows seem to be of memory foam material making them harder to use than one you can fold up under your neck. There are no drawers or places to unpack your things, but we were only staying two days...suitcases were fine. I spoke with the manager, Carlos, about concern for our passports, ipad, watches etc. since everyone says not to take them out with you in Rio. He gladly put them in envelopes, sealed them and put them in his safe, and we retrieved them after our day out and about. The cafe is next door and we had coffee, tea, and some delicious pão de queijo. We saw Carlos working in there as well! All in all, the high rating here and on other sites is well deserved. This hotel was a wonderful stay!
