Senado Rio Hotel 4 Comfortable & Convenient Stay
Located in Centro, the Senado Rio Hotel provided affordable, clean, comfortable and convenient accommodations for my trip to the Olympics. Just a 15-minute walk to the Central Bus/Subway/Train hub, the hotel is centrally located for access to the various Olympic venues arrayed across the Rio metropolitan area. Although I did not use it, the hotel is adjacent to bus routes. Taxi service was plentiful. The nearby park has beautiful banyon trees. The business/working class neighborhood has several cafes and restaurants. A hotel staff-referred laundry service and a post office that I used is a few blocks from the hotel. My air conditioned room featured a color TV, a mini bar, a couch, a wardrobe/dresser for clothing storage, a table and chairs for in-room dining or writing/computer work, and a shower/toilet room with fresh towels, soap and shampoo every day. The hotel staff was very helpful to meeting my travel-related needs. If you want to travel to Rio on an affordable budget, the Senado Rio Hotel has the comforts of home provided by a friendly and helpful staff.

Unexpectedly Nice!
With the Olympics opening ceremonies happening, affordable hotels were scarce. Originally, the notice about being a "love motel" gave me pause but because of the higher review ratings, we booked it anyway. We found out that this facility changed to a hotel about 1-2 years ago, so that turned out to be no issue. The bathroom area was tiled nicely, the room clean, secure, and larger than expected. Inside the hotel hallway door is a sitting area where you can have room service bring any food you may order, which comes from the Senado Cafe next door. Farther in, is a second door to the full room itself. We booked a double bed, but it was more like a queen/king in size...nice surprise. Be aware that the bed is more of a platform bed, and is very firm. Also, the pillows seem to be of memory foam material making them harder to use than one you can fold up under your neck. There are no drawers or places to unpack your things, but we were only staying two days...suitcases were fine. I spoke with the manager, Carlos, about concern for our passports, ipad, watches etc. since everyone says not to take them out with you in Rio. He gladly put them in envelopes, sealed them and put them in his safe, and we retrieved them after our day out and about. The cafe is next door and we had coffee, tea, and some delicious pão de queijo. We saw Carlos working in there as well! All in all, the high rating here and on other sites is well deserved. This hotel was a wonderful stay!

Great hotel, not far from the nightlife
Nice peaceful stay, not far from the nightlife of Lapa but far enough for a good nights sleep, which is essential when your burning the candle at both ends.

Great hotel overall with small issues
Overall very good hotel, excellent customer service despite the language Barrier the hotel staff was extremely helpful always the neighborhood wasn't the nicest and the wifi was kind of spotty at times and air conditioning could have been a bit better but for the price and experience I highly recommend this hotel and next time I go back to rio I will be staying there again.

2/10 Poor

Yikes..
Having never been to Brazil before, we chose this hotel online because it was fairly close to the Sambadrome and we hoped we could walk to Carnaval parades. We checked in and right back out as soon as we found a hotel in a safer area. The hotel is right across the street from a liquor store and gang graffiti covered everything around. Homeless people were sleeping in the street. I didn't feel safe in broad daylight. The beds were hard as a rock and the room includes a viewing window and performance platform..draw your own conclusions-if you look closely, the hotel's fine print indicates that this is a "love hotel".
