    Don't stay
    Only was checked-in was I told that the restaurant was closed for renovation (evidently has been for more than 3 months), breakfast had to be ordered to the room. I like to "work" from the hotel restaurants when I travel, hold meetings etc. I should have been notified about this at time of booking. Room feels dated and had all sorts of squeaking pipe noises all night. Not acceptable for $600/night

    I checked in at 1:30am and was woken up at 7:45am asking when I was checking out. I found it very rude to knock at my door early in the morning to ask when I was going to leave.

    Rooms were in poor condition, definitely in need of an upgrade. TV was old and doors/furniture were damaged. Plus noise travels between rooms. Wouldn’t recommend.

    Overall satisfied
    The hotel is clean, good size, relatively new and everything works as expected. What I really like is there are no buildings adjacent to the hotel hence you'll have a clear view outside from whichever room. The round table is small and the chair is not comfortable. A square table and cushioned chair would be great. Also the air conditioner is on the noisy side. If you set it to auto, it'll come on and off to adjust to the temperature that is set. It might wake you up in the middle of the night. I turn it off before I go to bed.

    It’s a little less than okay.
    Great location and I was happy to be upgraded. But there were large gnat- type bugs in the room, rain shower didn’t work, msnbc did work and overall the cleanliness and newness of the room didn’t match the price point.

    Looks modern in pictures but is very run down, there were stains on the drapes and things like that. The day after our first night, we were gone ALL day and yet came home to our room completely untouched by the cleaning lady, we left again around 4pm and after running into the cleaning lady she said she didn't have time earlier because she had a lot of other rooms to clean, we finally had our room cleaned after 5pm... they had left old wine glasses and drink glasses that we had brought up on the first night there, throughout our entire stay. There was a honking noise in the early AM hours (not cars, coming from the hotel) and a shrieking noise like it was coming from the plumbing, for hours on end in the morning - it was very disruptive. For the amount we paid, this place was definitely not worth it. Additionally the front desk staff didn't explain the amenities or tell us that there was a $10 mini bar credit applied nightly or that there was happy hour wine and cheese or scones/coffee available for breakfast int he lobby, our family members who were also staying in the hotel let us know. Overall, I would not recommend and would not stay here again.

    Friendly staff at this hip hotel
    My first interaction with the staff at the James was wonderful. I checked in and Kris and Bobby were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel room was small but pleasant. The bed was very comfortable. I found the hotel on a list of romantic spots which I just wouldn’t agree with. The rooftop is small and it’s more of a party than lounge area at night. In the morning they wouldn’t let us order breakfast on the rooftop, we had to go to our room to place the order and bring it upstairs, so we went out. All in all it was an okay experience but the staff was excellent!
