Hotel was beautiful as usual, room was great, check in was smooth. The only negative was that I pushed the front desk button on room phone and tried calling the front desk several times and no one would pick up. I also pushed room service button to call and no answer. I had to go to desk to ask questions.
This is the only property we stay in when visiting Dubuque. The hotel is clean, rooms great, excellent service and their COVID-19 policies/cleaning are thorough. We love that everything is within walking distance and they offer a great lounge and restaurant. We cannot wait to return!
I rarely bother to rate our hotels but we were so happy with our stay at the Julien that I need to leave a review. It was a beautiful room in this gorgeous hotel with a view of the Mississippi from the 7th floor. But the service was OUTSTANDING! We had a small family gathering for my son to get married and the staff could not have been more accommodating! We just used the second floor open balcony in this historic hotel for the 12 of us at no charge. When some of us went to Caroline’s (the restaurant at the hotel) for a late lunch after the ceremony, they had already closed until dinner BUT they actually allowed us to come in and they served us huge bowls of the most delicious soup I have ever had at a restaurant! AND the bill for all 6 of us was $24! Total! It’s probably the first time we have ever tipped over 100%. We were later than even our late check-out but they were kind and patient and treated us so well. Parking is plentiful and easy and really...I couldn’t be more grateful. I’d love to go back some day to explore the quaint little downtown of Dubuque, and you can bet I will stay at the Julien.
Very comfortable. Great view. Fantastic staff.
Quite exquisite inside and out. Great facility.
Sean in maintenance was really nice and helpful. We had a toilet with flushing issues and he came right up to fix. Super friendly. The bartender, Rob, was very good as well. We enjoyed his service and fun demeanor. Was not impressed with the front desk staff at all. The lady checking me in didn’t smile and said she could not upgrade our room (I wanted to pay for upgrade) because we booked in Hotels.com
Great old hotel with great location and free parking
Was there for a quiet wknd. What we got was a wknd of noisy neighbors, paper thin walls and annoying maids... I could seriously hear the person next door talkin on the phone and every word he said all evening. Then the maids thought it was necessary to knock on the door numerous times the first day. Then the front desk didn’t “realize” that we were staying two days even though I had reserved two days and had the confirmation from hotels.com to prove it. So had to get a phone call from front desk to go to to the lobby to verify confirmation and re swipe credit card for another deposit. That was the first day... The second day the maids knocked again starting at 10am, (check out is noon) When I didn’t answer because I was in the shower they walked rt in... not cool... I had enough of being bothered and spoke to front desk about it. I was offed a sorry that happened. But nothing else. The room was nice except for the blood stains on the comforter... and the paper thin walls, also the single pane windows are freezing when standing next to them on a cold day... Idk if I’ll be back
Overall, we had a really good experience at this beautiful old hotel. Very clean, large, elegant rooms and lobby. Prompt, friendly service. Very reasonable price. The only downside is the thermostat in the room--it is quite complicated and difficult to control the temperature. We basically could not control it ourselves and ended up having to call the front desk, where they can control it remotely. They were nice and accommodating about it, but it is an inconvenience nonetheless.
Stayed here a few weeks for work. My room had a view of the Mississippi River. Carolina restaurant has amazing food. Breakfast and dinners are delicious. Nice staff. Only downside for me was my room didn’t have a microwave so I couldn’t reheat any food. King size bed is nice but not much else to the room. It was small.
