The thing to know with this hotel is there is a deposit and fee payable on check out that I didn’t see until I had to pay it. A great Hotel, amazing staff always helpful room is cozy, sometimes can be dark so have to turn on all the lights
Nice place. Friendly check in. Close to bus stops to and from airport. Located at the north edge of the Gas Lamp district and just southwest of Balboa Park. Two issues I had. I walked out around 10:00 PM towards the Gas Lamp district for a late dinner. The streets are very quiet late at night except for a few sketchy individuals. A couple blocks later and there are plenty of people. So, if you want a quieter place that’s a plus. I tried to follow large groups of tourists on the way back. Bigger issue, there was a charge for internet/gym use etc. that was automatically added to my bill at check in. The clerk told me Hotels.com chooses to list the room rate without it. I got the idea that if I booked through the hotel, it was part of their advertised price. Maybe I could have opted out of this package, but it didn’t seem that way.
I bought this room with a free champagne perk. There was none. I stayed 2 nights and there was no cleaning. And I was promised free bottled water with the room and there was no water. I was extremely disappointed especially because there was a wine cellar in the hotel and the check in host said they have no means of providing alcohol. It was honestly infuriating. Not the way I imagined spending my Christmas away during these times.
It’s a cute little boutique hotel, the interior and decorations were really nice and it’s right in the middle of downtown San Diego . It is a smaller room but it was my perfect for my little trip as I wasn’t in the room very often. If you’re taking the Amtrak , it’s actually very close to the hotel, it was only an 8 minute walk. My only suggestions is they need better key systems, you can’t have the key close to your credit card or phone or the magnet would turn off. I had to get a new key twice. Also the lobby does kind of have a weird smell. Other than that, it’s perfect for nice little getaway.
Very Nice hotel and affordable too! its close to nice places ! its unique style is nice and we would like to come here again! Brian , maybe he is the manager there was wonderful to us and accomodating. Thank you , Sofia Hotel!
Wonderful
Every second I was going out, the staff asked if i was checking out, mind you i was in and out of my room so many times, i kept saying im staying til this day. some of the staff was rude. when i checked in and i gave the name of the reservation the gentlemen with a accent i barely understood, said "it doesnt matter give me your id". was not welcoming at ALL, did not make us feel welcomed and excited. he was definitely miserable. the room was small. room was a little dusty, found someone's bloody Band-Aid on our floor next to our bed.
Interesting vibe and feel not available at other boutique properties. Clean, modern bath. Enjoyed my music loud and never disturbed my neighbors in the process.
They have done a wonderful job of restoring this beautiful hotel. It is very conveniently located.
The hotel was nice and clean. Disappointed with the parking. It was $37 for one night in an open lot behind the hotel.
