We loved our stay at this property. We had a warm welcome, and a lovely room with a terrace overlooking Mount Etna. The hotel is situated up the hill from Taormina, close enough to go there for shopping or food but so peaceful. The pool area was nice, although I didn't see the pool bar open - perhaps it was too late in the year. The hotel restaurant, which is a 1 minute walk away is very nice too and we had several meals there. The hotel is 'classic', so if you want ultra modern and digital everything it may not be for you. If you want to relax while looking at a volcano, it's perfect.

The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The views of Etna were breathtaking. The location in Castelmola was unexpectedly delightful, far from the crowds in Taormina, and peaceful after a hard day’s sightseeing and shopping. The journeys to and from the hotel were always exhilarating/terrifying in equal measure. You don’t need a car, but do need to be on top of timetables if you plan to rely on public transport.

Hotel Sonia is traditional, well looked after , with great views. Breakfast buffet was very good . The pool are was very nice & the lunch menu very good value . The owners were very friendly & proud of their hotel . They also have an amazing real cave restaurant almost opposite which is excellent.

Absolutely loved this place and the owners and staff are amazing, it's a bit far out if you want to visit Taormina regularly and the last bus back is at 21.50 and if you miss that it's 20 to 25 euros for a taxi but it didn't bother us because we only stayed late in Taormina twice, the only other little gripe is that the hotel doesn't have a bar after 18.30 so you have to go to their restaurant up the street, that said i would definitely go back to this beautiful place.
