Let down by the restaurant...
Hotel was nice enough, splendid grounds, helpful staff, so far so good. Unfortunately, the food in the restaurant was very poor. On the evening I had a steak that took over 45 mins to arrive, was significantly overcooked, had uncooked chips and stone cold vine tomatoes. Tried to complain but the staff were none responsive / in denial at the time. The cooked breakfast was no better with anaemic bacon and sausage, very greasy black pudding and hard fried eggs... I won't return. Pity because it's otherwise I nice hotel in the countryside but within easy striking distance of Edinburgh. There just need to be an overhaul of the food side of the offering.

Distinctly average
Distinctly average. Which was a shame as we thought it would be a nice place. It was the service that really let us down, from struggling to contact the hotel in advance to organise breakfast option at the discounted price (unanswered calls and emails), so very very poor service in golf bar during dinner (we had to ask for cutlery as served dinner with none, and then salt and pepper, and then sauces - the list goes on). We then went to cocktail bar for a drink and desert and ended up waiting for 55 minutes for a brownie!!! By which point it was well passed my daughters bedtime and we had a very grumpy toddler to deal with. It was all just distinctly average, the whole stay. We won’t be returning or recommending to friends
