Welcome stay on a highlands trip
Very nice bar and breakfast. Common areas were nice and homely. Room had everything we needed but we’re somewhat dated evoking the 1950s. This was quite a retro novelty but the woodchip wall paper was perhaps a step too far!

The Inn in the heart of the Cairngorms
The Deeside Inn is a delightful small historic hotel right in the centre of Ballater. The public rooms have great atmosphere, Scottish-themed decor, and open log fires in chilly weather. It is the perfect location for visiting Balmoral.

10/10 Exceptional

The staff and decor make this a special gem . Very friendly welcome. Decorated in a traditional style with contemporary touches. Only downside is that there is no disabled parking. This was fine for the time of year we went but I imagine the summer season will be a different story. Breakfast was very special..Scottish produce and a wide variety of unusual dishes (including venison sliders). We are enjoying a three week tour of Scotland and so far this is our favourite place to stay. Recommended long as parking outside is not an issue for you.

6/10 Good

Seriously underwhelming!
Strange dated hotel which needs modernising. The atmosphere was underwhelming. Our room had tired magnolia painted walls and no pictures at all. Depressing. The shower in our room, number 18, was a joke. The shower head was the size of a cherry tomato. The food in the restaurant was very, very good but the portion sizes where very small. Ok so the lockdown was just lifting slightly and we couldn't have alcohol with our meal so the restaurant and hotel was very quiet. Pleasant staff but the interior, obviously aimed at American tourists with its tartan everywhere kust looked so dated. No outdoor area and the hotel overlooks a carpark and road. Shame that it felt so depressing staying there. Avoid room 18 if you can and please a message to the hotel, please get a new shower head for the room that gives off more than a trickle of water.
