    Think twice before booking

Absolutely horrible stay. Quality and cleanliness was abysmal. Staff was unhelpful. Completely overpriced. I would never recommend anyone to stay here.

Second Stay at Marina El Cid

We stayed at this property in January and it was wonderful, so we booked a return trip in late September. My wife and I booked a one bedroom Platinum Club suite for us and our two kids. The room is very spacious and clean - perfect for four people. One of the nicest rooms we’ve stayed in. The downside is they were doing construction right outside our room. Noise was only an issue one day, but our view of the ocean was obstructed the entire stay by a plywood wall they had put up to hide the construction. The beach is not really swimable. It’s fairly rocky and there is a ton of red seaweed along the beach this time of year. However the pool at Marina more than makes up for it. Kids will love the cliff jump and water slide. The resort was much more crowded than during our previous stay and service suffered a little as a result. Resort staff work very hard, but there were long delays at several of the restaurants. One night I waited over three hours to have bottled water delivered to the room because it wasn’t stocked during the day. I finally went to the lobby bar and got it myself. Food quality was good, not great. Plenty of variety. The buffets are quite good and very clean. Alacarte restaurants have great ambiance but mediocre food. There are lots of activities each day on property, so you won’t be bored. The kids club is fantastic if mom and dad need a break. Overall, it’s a solid all inclusive resort and a good value for the cost. We will likely be back.

    Save your money

The hotel staff aside from the front desk was great. They tried to charge my friend for a Covid test when we were told that they would be free at booking. She called days before we arrived and paid for birthday decorations in the room, they charged her card and on the last night brought a small cake and a bottle of champagne, even after she repeatedly reminded them every day that we were there. This resort tries to scam you and Nickel & dime you for every single thing. The food also could’ve been a lot better as well, and some of the restaurants are closed, which makes it difficult to make reservations at the few that are open. This is a very family friendly resort, which is great if you are traveling with children… not so great if you’re looking for quiet & relaxation. Also the rooms are pretty outdated and there was an ant problem.

    5/10 overall

The staff was amazing but their food choices were bland or very small portions so in the week I was there I lost 10 lbs (although that part was great to see when we got home) but the beds and pillows were to hard that was the worst weeks sleep I’ve ever gotten. The cleaning was always amazing, the room service we got 4 meals from was not good we clouding even eat it. If you wanna eat at the restaurants make sure you book them all the first day they fill up fast. Once again the staff were always amazing but the food and beds were 0/10 for sure. The pools were beautiful and fun. Our excursion guy Oscar was the worst, we booked with him for all 7 (6 adults 1 kid) to do 4 activities and he said my daughter would be fine because she was 5 and 3’6”.Wrong. She couldn’t do anything with us so one of us had to always switch out each day to do something else with her and he only gave us 300$ back which I feel was a scam. Going into town is very nice, make sure to haggle though cuz they will screw you. One sculpture at one store was 40$ but doesn’t eh street a guy try to sell me it for 106$ then lowered it to 50$. A Van taxi there was only 40$ and they wait there for you. Everyone there was super nice about us being gay but I can’t say the same for all the other visitors and other visitors did not like my bikinis but that’s okay, pool drinks are nice, restaurants drinks are mostly alcohol just a fair warning. Had a fun vacay. The Jade hotel up the street might be more comfy

    The LAST resort!

The rooms were clean and the food was great, but that is about as far as I would go for recommending this location. Check-in they were not friendly at all and tried to really take advantage of the entire COVID testing situation! They wanted to charge us like $120 per test! Long story - we ended up paying $30 per test. I would not recommend visiting their onsite doctor either - I paid more than $300 bucks for basically nothing and ended up taking my daughter to urgent care immediately upon return. If you are an international tourist - they really take advantage of you. I speak the language and have lived in Mexico, but they still tried to take advantage of me. There are too many other options in Cancun and surrounding areas to waste your money on this resort, which is approximately 30-45 minutes outside of Cancun. It is very expensive to stay here when there other resorts that are more cost effective and more value for the expenditure. Furthermore, their lack of effort to clean the beach of sargasso rendered the beach unavailable for use. The smell from the rotting sargasso was unbearable. I know this was high season for sargasso, but guests should have been advised prior to arrival of the state of the beach. We have traveled all over Mexico and I have to say this was one of the most disappointment experiences we have had in 15 years.
