Carneros Resort and Spa
Relaxing comfort and luxury.
We were two couples staying in one of the residences and it was SPECTACULAR. Brunch at Farm was amazing and dinner at the boon fly cafe was yummy. The service at the pool was really great (mango mojito!). The rooms were gorgeous. I've been to Carneros before and they continue to impress with their beauty.

Very Good8.0
2010 vs. 2018
Carneros isn't the same since Plumpjack stopped managing it. Still a great time, but just not as spectacular as it was in the past. Starting to get a bit dated and staff is more impersonal.

Resort is great, two-bedroom villas are not
We have stayed here many times in the regular cottages as a couple, and always loved them. This time we took the family for Father's Day, and rented (for a whopping $4000) a two-bedroom villa that is normally offered as part of the fractional ownership plan. We had originally intended to try it out with the idea that we might buy in down the road. Thankfully, we got a chance to experience one first because it was very disappointing. They were very poorly built, and are falling apart in places. The electrical is wired in such a way as to keep you guessing for hours about where to turn something on or off. The staff did a very poor job of making sure the place was stocked (we were missing drinking glasses and a bottle opener, which were mysteriously never supplied), the trash and recycling under the sink were never once removed during our stay and ended up overflowing, the doors to the patio didn't close or lock properly, etc. etc. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. Nonetheless, the resort is exceptional, and the grounds are beautiful. The staff at the restaurant was top notch. The location is so remote that they really should have a more robust offering at the market, but overall the food was fine. (Sidenote: We were told that they are set to remodel the villas soon, but we have been hearing that for a while, and they really should discount them in the meantime. Aside from the private hot tub, major waste).

missed the mark
I have stayed at this amazing place a few times before, and every time before has been amazing! This time the experience was somewhat a miss for me, going into with the expectations of what a $750 a night room should be and past experiences. The unit was quite worn, scuffs on the walls chips in the paint, towel racks hanging off the wall pulling out the sheet rock one of the drapery panels was mix-matched (all blackout but one). This bring me to the overall cleanliness, while brushing my teeth there was a layer of dust and dirt on the mirror and the vanity mirror, registers were filthy, then to top it off while laying in the crisp white sheets dust bunnies from the fan began falling off. With all the amazing hotels in this high price point i would think that customer experience would be more on point. I will say upon check out the staff was great and they listened to my my concerns. I did order room service and it was quite amazing fried chicken and mac and cheese.. mmmmm! If you are going to stay here I would wait until they have the unit updates (which they are in the process of completing the first round) or in the mean time there are much more fabulous places in the valley!
