We stayed here for going to the NEC. Ideal! Very welcoming. The hotel and room were very clean. Breakfast was good. Theres the little owl pub next door for food if you dont want to eat here, we did that only because HI were really busy. Good location

Business trip
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Birmingham NEC whilst on a business trip from Cornwall. The hotel was functional for what it is designed for, short stay trips and visit to the NEC. I was given 2 conflicting accounts by reception staff on how to get to the NEC. Coming from the far end of Cornwall I do not get to this part of the country very often so this was unhelpful. Reception staff did however give me so good advice for the first night and advised me to eat next door as they would have been busy due to 2 bus loads of students, which was really nice and I ate there the next night as well. Breakfast, was as advertised to be fair, but is a bit grim, not much variation and on the first morning no eggs at all were available, bear in mind they only offer scrambled. My room was ok but I did have a lot of long dark hair on the floor in the toilet, which was not pleasant and the air conditioning unit was very noisy when starting up and shutting down. It served a purpose but could with very little effort have been so much nicer.
