8/10 Very good

So much potential, but a victim of years of underinvestment unfortunately. Recently refurbished but missed out some areas which still make the hotel feel very 1980’s. For example the handrails and doors in corridors and the very old fashioned electric radiators in the rooms. Also the lack of A/C will be a problem in the summer as you can’t have the windows open owing to looking out directly onto the M65. The grounds (between buildings) are also a complete mess - probably owing to the still finishing off renovations but bowing/collapsing fences and furniture strewed all over the place just gives a vibe of ‘we don’t really care’ it’s definitely possibly to keep the grounds looking tidier whilst the refurbishment works are wrapped up. Damp causing paintwork to peel in corridors and mouldy shower seals. The staff are lovely however and go above and beyond to help you. Very reasonably priced room and breakfast. So overall not bad, but so much potential to be

Much better in the area for the money!
Well the premium of this place compared to other hotels in the area is slightly extortionate. The whole place is very very tired. Positive they have full toiletries availiable. The beds are relatively comfy but the pillows are pretty crap!

Reasonably happy
We have stayed at the Mercure before, so broadly knew what to expect. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the only downside, being the lack of variety on the menu, from the first day to the second. Apart from a change to the soup and fish of the day, everything else was the same. We ended up walking to a nearby pub, for our meal on our second day
