Exceptional customer service
We love staying at the Shilla. Its level of customer service is exceptional and very similar to the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, however a lot cheaper. Everyone you see at the hotel is attentive and caring, and you always feel that you are being looked after. Their spa facility and massage are also great. I recommend this hotel to anyone who stays in Seoul. We shall be back for more Shilla stays when we are back to Seoul!

8/10 Very good

Large modern hotel on a hill
Large hotel and Tax Free Shopping Centre on a hilltop, with great views of the university campus and telecom tower on one side and the city on the other. There are no shops or restaurants nearby, so you have to travel further each time. The restaurants in the hotel are great, but very pricey. The sauna, plunge pools, outside pool & changing rooms are only available to the top room type guests and to outside customers who join the health club. The gym is accessible, but has no changing facilities; the indoor pool is accessible, but has a tiny changing room with one shower and few lockers. Great service, but a very large and busy hotel. Taxis are needed to go anywhere and, if you are coming from the subway station at the bottom of the hill, it’s a long, steep slog up. They do have curtesy hourly and half-hourly buses to 2 shopping locations in the city.

4/10 Fair

I recently had the displeasure of staying at the Shilla Seoul, and I must say, my experience was extremely disappointing. To begin with, the hotel is highly overrated and failed to live up to its supposed 5-star rating. Furthermore, navigating the hotel was a complete nightmare. The confusing layout made it difficult to find our way from the entrance gate to the top, and no one seemed willing to help us. To make matters worse, the swimming pool and gym were both closed during our stay, without any prior notice from the hotel. The gym had a strict policy of requiring guests to use baskets, which seemed unnecessary for those who only wanted to stretch. The bus drivers were incredibly rude, and to add to that, the bus we took was marked "dongdaemun" but ended up going to myeongdong, which caused a lot of confusion and frustration. The shower floor was also broken, which was unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. The hotel felt more like a factory than a luxurious retreat, and to top it off, the guy working at the executive lounge was incredibly impolite. Finally, it was frustrating to learn that everything at the hotel was an add-on, and you had to pay extra for almost everything. However, I must admit that the view from the hotel room was excellent, the shower pressure was good, and the breakfast was decent. Overall, my advice to the hotel would be to prioritize quality over quantity and treat guests with more respect and care. I would not recommend this hotel.
