Sofia Hotel Balkan, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Sofia

Perfect location, very professional stuff, not so good condition.

An aging hotel offering excellent service at heart of town. Location couldn’t be better. Right at the Centre. Rooms are of decent size. Bed is comfy. Shower-tub combo in perfect order. WiFi works ok. Iron and board in room. Two complementary bottles of water daily. Nice bar, excellent breakfast. Nice gym too, but can use better maintenance. So do the elevators in the entire hotel, which are operating each by itself (no common logic) and seem to be in need of better maintenance. Staff is helpful and speaks good English. Plenty of shopping, food and entertainment within walking distance. 20-30 minutes from airport by taxi @ around 15 Leva (7-8 Euro).

Overall my expectations were totally different after staying in numerous Sheraton hotels around the world. This one doesn't even come close, starting with the treatment at the reception desk, than the disappointment when I found a dirty room, missing toiletries, towels, lightbulbs, slippers, robe, dirty fridge etc. I had to call concierge numerous times and make requests, he was the only helpful and understanding person, probably because he isn't Bulgarian. I wouldn't recommend staying in this hotel, the good reviews are probably fake and are deceiving. Expect rude and ignorant treatment, receptionists who wouldn't even greet you even after standing there for a few minutes and don't even think about that someone will offer to help with your luggage. I was traveling from USA and I had large bags that I had to carry myself. Biggest disappointment so far.

Staff and location excellent. Perhaps some minor renovations are needed for some of the rooms but overall the stay was great.

Big hotel located right at the center of the city. Great for exploring the city by foot. Old style building (actually built at 1956). We got a small but nice and comfortable room. No views from the small window. Its not exactly clear why this hotel deserves a "5 star' rating. No pool or special services. No parking ! (We were told that the parking outside the hotel belongs to the city and we were charged 15 Euro per day for parking).

Firstly do not book this hotel through Expedia. Do it direct. The hotel group were offering cancellations and changes to all bookings during the Coronavirus outbreak but Expedia were and still are refusing to budge. So the review for Expedia is TERRIBLE. But the hotel itself is beautiful. The Front Desk was welcoming and advised us that sadly all restaurants and bars were closed, as was the gym. We were told that Breakfast would have to be in the room and that only room service would be available. Our rooms on the third floor were very nice, with nice views of the City. Very comfortable bed and furniture. Wi-fi was perfect (and free). Concierge was very friendly and helpful and when we had our breakfast (we were in two rooms) the waiter was kind enough to let us have it together on the sofas and table outside our rooms. The breakfast was huge thank you. Everyone was friendly and helpful and worked very hard during this difficult time. We look forward to coming back to this hotel when the Coronavirus has gone but will book direct!

This is a magnificent building, right in the heart of it all, historic and tourist points of interest, and shopping and restaurants. The breakfast is amazing, it will fulfill anything you have appetite for. From the person happily welcoming you, helping you with your luggage, the front desk staff , housekeeping staff and the staff during the breakfast are all attentive and striving to please.

Great classic hotel. Beautiful room like the times hotel respected themselves.

The hotel has a great location and the room was of a good size, very comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful. Overall a very pleasant stay.
