Not of Kimpton Quality!
Stayed here for one night while in DC on business. I saw that it was a Kimpton property, but sadly not of the level of cleanliness or service I expect from a Kimpton hotel. The Madera was tired and might I say a bit dirty. I won't be staying here again.

Not a simple check in
The lady at the counter was asking for a deposit that the website didn’t mention and didn’t give us different options to pay for it. Then ended up waving the fee, because she didn’t want to take cash nor the credit card we had on hand because it was Not the one we used to make the reservation. The hotel is great well situated and overall we enjoyed it, but the check in wasn’t as smooth as we expected it was going to be.

There hidden fees. Like the valet overnight parking. They held 100$. Nobody tells you about ANY of this when booking. 75$ stay ended up being a 150$ stay that was not prepared for. And there was no fridge.

Overall nice room, but odd experience
Service at the counter was friendly, and I was able to check in early(after paying a fee). The room was larger than from what I expected in the pictures. Only odd thing was on my last night of stay, when I returned in the evening I found a maintenance person fixing the toilet even though it was not faulty and I did not request it. I had a do not disturb sign on the door. I am not sure what the policy is of entering the guest’s room when no one is in the room.

Very nice!
We were a little concerned after reading reviews. The hotel is old (like Washington). However, room was clean, nice linens & towels. Very spacious. We had a lot of kids and everybody got a bed. The TV in the sofa bed, bunk bed area included X box!! That was a pleasant surprise Only negative is refrigerator is just for wet bar and no breakfast.

Booked this hotel for 3 nights based on location, on pulling up outside I instantly knew i’d made a bad choice, on entering my fears were confirmed. The hotel is not a Kimpton as described on your website???? The hotel is run down, filthy and in need of a serious upgrade, the carpets frayed, the whole place smelled, the overbearing smell of air freshener when it hits your nostrils is stomach turning. The so called lobby is nothing more than a walkway, you’ll find two broken water coolers, a so called check in desk (filthy) a high top table with a few chairs. / Expedia seriously need to send a senior employee to this hotel, in my opinion this hotel shouldn’t appear in your search area, at best I’d rate it as One Star and that’s being generous. I think there are serious health and safety issues at play here, this hotel shouldn’t be allowed to accept guest, and / Expedia shouldn’t be featuring this property. I’m actually still waiting on / Expedia to refund my money paid, as you know I had to rebook another hotel and repay.
