Wonderful hotel (albeit pricy breakfast)
We truly enjoyed our 4 nights stay at Derby Hotel Barcelona. Location: Is not entirely central which has pros and cons. Pro: is relatively close to Eixample neighborhood where many great local restaurants and cafes are located and the attractions are walking distance (~30 min walk to casa batllo) and the other advantage was it was a quiter area so we enjoyed peaceful sleeps at night. Cons: you either have to be comfortable walking 30min or just take the bus/metro to central areas. Breakfast: we did not get the room with breakfast but only purchased one buffet breakfast at the hotel and can say although very delicious and professionally served, it is overpriced compared to fine dining breakfast in Barcelona and is not worth it. They charge 20 euro per person per day for the buffet breakfast. The average cost of great breakfast (salmon, avocado and egg on a bagel and coffee) in a lux cafe near hotel was around 8 euro per person. Other hotels we stayed in Spain charged considerably less for breakfast buffet. Room: renovated rooms just like pictures, room service everyday, they had bathrobe, slippers and some useful day bags included for your comfort which was nice. They also have connecting rooms if that's of an interest. Overall: highly recommended the hotel (not the breakfast)
