Booked because of reviews - complete disappointment when we got there. Is in the french quarter and we arrived around 10:30 am. nothing but party central on all blocks - drunks everywhere, others clearly under the influence of other substances, fighting, utter chaos it seemed. A bit hard to locate; confusing where to stop, parking area was locked. Upon check in I was told I am REQUIRED to bring back my car keys after parking & unloading in the parking area. Hadn't been there 25 minutes they were already calling my room asking for my keys, which just made that request seem that much more sketchy. The room was old & dingy. Dust-filled corners, odd smelling. Appeared we had an old balcony with some strange shutters nailed over the windows that looked like little haunted house blinds. Beds were not great at all, appeared dingy. Bathroom had a bar in the shower of which one side was detached from the tile wall. Immediately notified front desk upon "turning in" my keys - was told sometimes "security may or may not need to move your vehicle." Yeah...wasn't feeling that idea at all. The thought of staying in the french quarter intrigued us, and this was just an overnight stop while road tripping. Even for the less than 14 hour duration we were there it was totally not worth it. We'll be staying in the "business district" next visit and I recommend you consider the same. Dauphine may be historic but certainly not an attractive place to stay.
