The overall condition of the property, outside and within, was dirty, cluttered and unkept. The manager of the property (Alan) was coughing a great deal and wore No mask. We had to 30 minutes outside in the cold (we had an agreed upon time to check in). When the manager did arrive he sat us in the dining area which was cluttered with clothes on a drying rack and in piles on the floor. The rugs were visibly soiled, there was dirt on the floor.
The table we sat at had dirty dishes on it and crumbs. Surprisingly he brought us hot tea and served it on the dirty mats and table cloth full of crumbs. It was totally unacceptable. We told him that we could not stay in such conditions. At first he agreed to cancel and refund our reservation. But after we moved to another area hotel, I contacted Expedia and they called the property to finalize the cancellation. They informed me that the manager was refusing to give the refund. This horrible experience was compounded by the fact that I had just had hip surgery. It is incomprehensible that he could expect people to accept accommodations in that state—unclean and unhealthy.
