Prime Spot, Poor Standards: Chicago Stay
This hotel sure has a killer location right in the heart of Chicago. But, and it's a big but, there's zero security. Despite a sign telling you to check in with security, there's nobody on duty. It's weird, really, considering you have to go through a security check to visit the stunning Millennium Park across the street. I walked in and out of the hotel at least 6 times with no one caring who was going in and out. The lobby is not near the entrance so there are no employees between the front door and unsecured elevators to our room.
The rooms? Well, they're big, but pretty run down and they could do with a better cleanup. In fact, the cleaning was so subpar that I found, brace yourself, pubic hair in the bathtub. It's obvious the room wasn't cleaned properly after the last guests.
The design of the rooms is a bit odd, too; a desk is plonked in the bathroom with no chair or mirror. And the bathroom fixtures are like something out of a 1980s catalog, especially the toilet seat, which looks permanently dirty even though it's clean.
On the upside, the bed's not too bad, but they've seriously cut corners on the bedding - only one pillow and a flimsy blanket that wouldn't keep a cat warm. We had to ask for extra pillows and blankets, as the room was freezing when we got there.
So, to sum up, the hotel's got a top spot in a cool part of Chicago, but it needs some serious TLC. Right now, it feels like they're not quite delivering what you'd expect for the price.
