Profile: West Asheville

Profile: West Asheville

West Asheville is located across the French Broad River from downtown Asheville, and this geographic separation makes it feel like a small town in its own right. The buildings along Haywood Road are painted in a rainbow of cheerful hues, and a stroll down it will tempt you with tasty brunch spots and vintage record shops.

The River Arts District brims with artists’ workshops – most are open to the public, so you can wander in and watch as clay is sculpted, glass fired, and canvasses painted. Finish with a visit to New Belgian Brewery for a well-deserved tasting session.

It was my wife’s 40th birthday, hotel pictures were deceiving on line. There were several hundred bikers there. There were ants and roaches in the bathroom. Room smelled like dogs… dogs were barking late at night… for $300.00 a night the place was not worth it at all. If I could have gotten my money back I would have checked out….

We actually liked this hotel so much we booked for two more nights. Nice clean rooms a lot to do at the resort. All the staff have been extremely nice and efficient. My favourite part is the shuttle to downtown for a reasonable cost. Fabulous stay.

Ok Stay, won't be back though

Overall, the hotel is located on a beautiful property. Upon arrival, I was told I am staying in the Linville wing. I was not told that there is no direct elevator access to this wing. I had to wander the hallways with heavy luggage looking for an elevator, only to discover it didn't exist in this wing. Upon check out I just walked my luggage down the stairs as it was much closer to the wing's entrance. The property states they have room service, however when I ordered it, I had to go pick it up in the lobby. They also charged higher "room service rates" then posted on their menu, and for what? I had to pick it up. When I got to my room, the balcony door barely opened because the track was terrible, so I couldn't enjoy the balcony. My tall floor lamp didn't work and the carpet could use a serious cleaning. Overall, it's a decent room, but for over $250 a night, I was not impressed and probably would not return. On the plus side, location is great. Within a hop skip to the River Arts District and West Asheville or Downtown.

    I’ll be back

It was a quiet, comfortable, clean hotel. I loved the small porch overlooking a greenway/woodsy area. It made my Down time very relaxing. Super comfortable beds and clean room. The air conditioner fan was slightly noisy as was the ’fridge, but overall, it was great place to stay. I’ll be back!

    Disappointed with our stay.

The ceiling in the bathroom was leaking the entire time and had been for a while from the looks of the mold and mildew smell through out the room. This was a holiday weekend and they were booked solid or at least that was what we were told so we just toughed it out. We paid a lot to stay in that Villa for our daughter’s wedding. Thankful that most of the guests stayed in the downtown hotels.

Nice place to stay. Great recreation amenities?

Mostly very good. I would rate amenities and lobby/entrance as a 9, but the rooms were maybe a 6.

    Pre Memorial Day Visit

Pre Memorial Day stay, friendly welcome and staff but outdoor pools not open and indoor pool a few hundred yards from main building so not readily accessible. But lovely site and grounds with beautiful views of hills. Asheville in good form but exit to property off Resort Drive quite easy to miss as just beyond curve.

Resort has been redone and looks great. Very clean and modern look. enjoyed our stay and had no issues other than a fairly small bathroom and trouble with the door keys working properly. We would stay there again.

    Weekend Trip

The rooms were clean, but they need more staff. I know they are trying. The balcony was filthy. We could not sit out and enjoy it. There were also bugs in our room the first 2 nights. Not sure how they were getting in as we did not open the doors. Bartenders Joe and Teddy were absolutely amazing. The irons were not working so we called and down and went through 3 of them with no luck. So shirt did not get fully pressed in time for dinner.

    Underwhelmed

A coffee pod was left in the machine from the prior guest. The tub drain did not work properly, therefore, a pool of water would accumulate at our feet during showers. The refrigerator made a loud clinking noise that would disturb our sleep
