8/10 Very good

Great little hotel
This is a lovely hotel with very helpful staff. I had a "double cosy" room which was adequate as I was on my own, but I would definitely want a larger room if I visited the hotel with my husband. That said, the room had everything I could have wanted and I made the choice to have a cosy room so it it was as I expected when booking. Though the hotel boasts around 37 rooms, at no time did I feel that I was in a large hotel and the atmosphere was warm and calm. The only thing I would have liked would have been a resident's lounge - no service needed, just a quiet corner. There was a downstairs area with a bar - un-serviced at the time - but there was someone Zooming loudly which was not conducive to a "quiet" area. Also the chairs were not there for comfort. The food in the restaurant was really good with plenty of choice for me. Super restaurant staff who were not always treated politely by some customers (USA) which made them all the more impressive. Would I come again? definitely on my own - excellent shopping opportunities very close by too!

4/10 Fair

Very disappointing
I had a one night stay at Sloane Place with my wife. The positives are: The room size was OK; the bed was large and very firm, which we prefer, and the shower was good. The negatives: The room was not clean – there was a pile of hair behind the shower room door, the toilet didn’t flush properly, and the cost of food is ridiculously high, even by London standards. Each item on the breakfast menu is individually priced and expensive, e.g., bowl of granola £10 and English breakfast £15. Add a coffee and glass of orange juice and you’re soon looking at £70 for two people. If you’re daft enough to want a cheese and tomato sandwich on room service, then that will cost £8.50! We elected to have breakfast at a lovely café 100m down the road – great coffee and lovely pastries, muffins, etc. However, by far the most irritating thing we encountered was at check-out. We reported the problem with the toilet and the receptionist couldn’t have been more clueless / disinterested. I believed that the problem was a sticking ballcock valve in the cistern, which meant that the water kept running into the bowl. This happened for a very long time before the ballcock worked free and the cistern filled up properly – such a waste of water. I would have thought that this was something the hotel team would have wanted to know about; apparently not … I really had to persist to get the receptionist to make a note and agree to pass the message to their maintenance team. Very disappointing ...!
