Amazing experience!

I came with my friends to York for the for the first time, and the stay here made the overall experience wonderful. Everything was perfect, and in the morning we had a nice breakfast. I would stay here again on my next trip to York :))

8/10 Very good

Convenient and pleasant location

A very practical location for those happy with a safe/direct once mile walk to the city centre (or just round the corner for anyone attending cricket or rugby matches at York Sports Club, like we were). Free parking (enter reg details at reception to qualify) and the lovely adjacent park are extra bonuses. The staff are excellent and the food was very good, with exceptional value £1 meals for kids. The rooms are basic as you'd expect for a YHA and we had a bit of noise disturbance from a nearby family because the sound echoes down the corridors, but that was just pot luck of who else was also there that night. In the en suite rooms, it's worth taking off your shoes before using the sink, because it's unusually built into the run off of the shower basin, so that avoids treading dirty or damp footprints everywhere.

A** Charles on reception needs a bonus

Fantastic, 24/7 desk service. Charles on the reception was hilarious and brilliant!

I would like to thank the YHA York staff, Charles for his amazing service. He was very prompt in responding to my problem. The staff in charge of the reception in the morning 22/01 was helpful as well. I remembered I took the room card for me but lost it and it wasn't in my hand, the staff was very patient and allowed me going into the corridor that required access card and I found my card dropped at the door. The staff at the YHA York are amazing, thanks.

Perfect location for York city, and beyond

Lovely location, plenty of free parking. Lots of outdoor seating as well as plenty of tables, chairs and sofas inside. This is a very old building, so the floors squeak and the beds move when people are walking around. Room HO1 has a very squeaky door, which has woken us all up every time someone needs to go out to the toilet. I did mention to staff a spot of WD40 would do it, but it wasn't sorted. The door locks are also electronically locked, meaning they have to be slammed to close, not ideal when everyone else is trying to sleep. The toilets and showers are outside of the room and very small, but I never had to wait. The kitchen is quite small for the number of guests and can get extremley busy on the evening. These are all factual comments, not critisisms, as it's more than sufficient for a hostel. I would book again, I think Windermere set the standard for me! 🙂

We wanted somewhere reasonably priced but clean and not too far away from York races and the train stations. This is exactly what we got. The added bonus was the staff were amazing! Thank you!

Really nice place, wish I could've stayed longer!

Needed a last-minute place to stay the night whilst I was at a weekend event in York. Had a pleasant experience parking and getting in, the shared toilets and shower were clean. The only issue was that one of the bunk beds had built-in lights and outlets that didn't work. I checked and they were plugged in and switched on at the wall, but there was no light, and the outlets wouldn't charge my phone. Would've been nice if there was a direct bus route between the hostel and the city centre as well, but that's York's problem.

Very goof atmospehere. I shared a 4 bed room with my daughter for 50 which is a really good deal and the 25' walk along the river to get there was very pleasant.

Very good accommodation for the price

Really nice place to stay. Clean comfy room, decent kitchen, very well maintained. No complaints apart from the pillows were a bit too hard. Will certainly use again. Almost perfect!

6/10 Good

Lovely shared areas but the room was poor. The bathroom fan would not go off all night which was very noisy. The bed lights and charge points did not work. Vegan breakfast options were very limited and the server did not know was vegan so I got a refund and ate in York instead.

Great option for a budget stay in York

Lovely, well-appointed hostel just a 20 min walk from York city centre along the river. Room was clean, quiet and comfortable and the hostel has great facilities. Located right next to a beautiful park. Great value for money, would return.

10/10 Exceptional

Great value for money-lovely location.

Good location-short journey from city centre. Well equipped room-ensuite family with 2 sets of bunkbeds, seperate toilet and seperate shower room ensuite with sink in room and two mirrors. Beds have power supply and lamp for each bed. Additional two twin plug sockets near radiator. Mattress a little hard for my liking but ok. Clean bedding, beds made up-bring your own towel/s. The range of food on offer throughout the day looked great but due to allergies/intolerance didn't try anything from the menu. Polite and helpful staff. Clean communal areas with lots of games available for families or friends to use whilst onsite. Beautiful well kept grounds although persistent rain and wind meant I only looked at it through the windows. Hope to revisit later in the year. Recommend as great value for money.
