An absolute delight, excellent staff and great facilities.

This was a return visit despite a poor experience earlier in the year. The welcome was almost non existent when I was shown to my room. The Boot is dirty and shabby especially in the public areas. The staff have a dismissive attitude and the level of service is dreadful with a lack of observation or care. I will definitely not be returning!!

10/10 Exceptional

The staff were very welcoming. I was traveling alone so decided to book the snug bedroom. I was pleasantly surprised. It was well equipped with tea and coffee facilities, large disabled access wet room. TV and an extra rad if I was cold. For the one night stay it had everything I needed. Breakfast was delicious with fresh orange juice and service you could not fault

One night stay

One night stay (I have stayed a few times before also). Nice room, good evening meal and good breakfast. Friendly staff also. What's not to like?

High Quality Place

Pleasant room, everything supplied was well above basic levels. Food was excellent. Breakfast offered some creative options that suited me much better than the traditional "full English" - although this is also on offer and looked very good as well.

Very disappointing

My room was nicely appointed but had tiny bathroom with a very tight shower cubicle. Unfortunately, as the room was located above the bar, it was quiet noisy until closing time. The front of the pub is illuminated throughout the night and, despite the heavy curtains to the window, a lot of light came into the room. Dinner was a huge disappointment. The menu was quite limited and so I chose the Brixham Market fish stew. I asked the waitress what it contained but she had no idea but returned from the kitchen with the answer: haddock, prawns and mussels. I was completely shocked when my meal arrived a few minutes later which automatically made me question the process in the kitchen. The dish was disappointing with a heavy tomato base which killed any flavours. The saffron potatoes were completely smothered in the heavy sauce so it was impossible to taste the delicate flavour of saffron. Again, staff training was lacking: no receptacle for my muscle shells, no finger bowl which was essential with the tomato gloop and nobody asked if everything was ok. The man who I would assume was in charge, had an irritating habit of stroking his beard which, in a restaurant, was quite unpleasant. Nobody enquired if they could get me anything else so retired back to the bar for coffee. Breakfast was a shambles: there was no coffee available as the machine had been ‘turned off’. A lack of professionalism and poor service.

Business trip

A gem of a hotel based above a pub in a quiet village setting next to a local church. Fantastic food and attentive staff. Hotel has good parking facilities

Bedroom terrible

The pub was lovely, staff were gracious and polite, evening meal and breakfast delicious. Unfortunately the condition of the bedroom was terrible due too stale water smell from the shower. Disappointingly this ruined what would have been a nice stay.

Very quaint, staff very friendly and helpful. Room wasn't big but had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Bogh dinner and breakfast were delicious. Would recommend.

2 day stay on trip

Room was clean and comfortable. WiFi didn’t work in room, but good in bar and outside. Bathroom a little tired but functional. Food was great.

6/10 Good

I stay in hotels every week but at this price £135 one night the breakfast should’ve been included it is but a full English is an extra £4.50. There was no cereal no fruit no fruit juice and no eggs. You got half a tomato, one mushroom one rasher of streaky bacon, one sausage and a slice of toast extremely disappointing. Nice location with free parking and good amenities in the room but overpriced and asking more for breakfast is ridiculous. Sorry will not be back.

Great food and location

A nice stay when in the area. The food is good, as are the team. I did hear some locals moaning about both, however that isn't my experience at all. The rooms are good, I had a different room this time and it's probably due for some tlc, however it was serviceable and the bed was comfy etc. The Bowl has a nice feel in a lovely location - it was a stunning evening to sit outside and dine whilst reading a book - with the bell ringing practise starting in the evening.

2 night business trip, room was nice, clean and comfy. Breakfast was very nice. Dinner was excellent but not the cheapest would have been nice to get a discount as a staying guest. I would definitely stay again when in the area

The service was decent. The dining room was nice. The food was good. The room however had some issues and particular the bathroom It was very noisy when you ran the water and the toilet did not fit the flooring at all. It was a bit strange.

This very special hotel is just what I was looking for, a small hotel, that is very quiet, nowhere near an interstate (noise), has friendly staff, great food, and a very old yet clean pub bar area. We ate two meals there, their included 'free' breakfast was a FULL English breakfast, with SUPERB food, and friendly service. I will definitely stay there with my wife again next time we travel to the Bristol area. Top notch hotel, pub, restaurant, all tied up together in a very quiet and safe place. Thank you Adam, Rhys, and the manager and waitress who I met, and are super-nice and friendly.
