Osaka Hotels

An important center for business and culture, Osaka is a buzzing city full of skyscrapers and modern structures sitting alongside traditional architecture. Famous for its bustling shopping streets and exclusive nightlife, the city is always busy, and during the day the population swells thanks to the number of commuters who work in the high-rise offices.

Things to see

The Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade hosts hundreds of stylish stores, boutiques, beauticians, and cafés under a large domed roof. It’s a lively and busy shopping area full of flashing neon signs and food stalls to tempt your taste buds. Dotonbori is also a popular shopping district with a more traditional feel, and you’ll find stores selling local goods and restaurants with authentic cuisine. Universal Studios Japan is a fun, family-friendly theme park with a wide range of rides and shows based on epic blockbuster movies. In the evenings, head to the Nanba Grand Kagetsu where the art of Yoshimoto comedy was invented. Mixing slapstick with songs and acrobatics, it’s a unique experience for tourists to witness. Those who prefer sports should visit the Hanshin Koshien Stadium, a modern structure that hosts professional baseball games, as well as high-school championships that are taken very seriously by locals, with thousands of cheering fans packing the stands.

Where to stay

Namba is at the heart of southern Osaka, and at night it’s predominantly an entertainment district with neon-soaked streets full of bars, restaurants, and exclusive nightclubs. It’s also an important center for business, with many high-rise office buildings housing major corporations. Shinsaibashi is a shopaholic’s paradise, with several major shopping streets, sprawling malls, and quirky boutiques found throughout the area. Umeda is the central business district of Osaka, full of glimmering skyscrapers and streets full of traffic. How to get to Osaka

Kansai International Airport is set on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, putting it at the heart of the city, and flights arrive from across Asia on a regular basis. From here you can take a direct, high-speed train to Namba Station with the connection taking about 37 minutes, and can change trains and get to Osaka Station in another 10 minutes. There’s also the smaller Osaka International Airport (ITM-Itami) which welcomes domestic flights from across Japan and is about a 20 minute taxi ride north of the city center.
