Bray Introduction

A swanky McDonald's with a chandelier, the best pub in the world (at least according to some travel guides), the hometown of pop musician Hozier – these are just some of the things that make Bray such an interesting place. But it's more than just the quirks that attract visitors to this lovely seaside town in County Wicklow, which is just a quick drive away from the bustling capital city of Dublin. You could spend your day golfing, sailing or horse riding, then party at night as the town comes to life with its vibrant pubs and cafe-style bars.

Hotels in Bray

While Bray isn't teeming with high-rise, ultra-modern hotels, there's a good selection in town and nearby to choose from. Two- and 3-star hotels in Bray feature relaxed guestrooms equipped with en suite bathrooms, satellite TV and coffee and tea-making facilities. There's usually a laid-back restaurant and bar on the premises, as well as meeting facilities and a garden or terrace. Those looking for luxury hotels in Bray can find grandiose 5-star accommodations nearby, boasting amenities that include posh restaurants, indoor pools, golf courses and valet parking. Renting an apartment is another option, where you can cook your own meals in a fully equipped kitchen and relax on the terrace.

Where to stay in Bray

It isn't any surprise to find that hotels located in the Seafront Park area are among the most popular among tourists visiting Bray. Guestrooms here overlook the beautiful Irish Sea, and the wide, sandy beach is just steps away. The mile-long beachfront promenade offers plenty in the way of entertainment, from fine restaurants to lively pubs. The town's northern periphery is scenic in its own right, with the River Dargle bubbling close by and where mountain walking trails are within easy reach. You could also consider staying in the southern part of town, a great area for hill climbing, and where some business and retail parks are located.

Things to see in Bray

You don't need to go scuba diving to encounter fascinating marine creatures up close. The National Sealife Centre, one of the largest marine and freshwater zoos in Ireland, is home to more than a thousand underwater animals including sharks, octopuses and seahorses. Kids and adults will enjoy feeding demonstrations held several times a day, and can even join in on conservation projects such as beach cleanups. Bray Head, which adjoins the town of Greystones, is a popular spot for rock climbing and hill walking. Every Good Friday, locals ascend Bray Head on a procession that ends at a concrete cross which was installed in 1950. Spending time at the Mermaid Wicklow County Arts Centre is a pleasant way to bond with friends and family. It's where you can watch performances by local musicians and actors, take in an art house film and join an arts and crafts workshop.
