When can I find the best deals on B&Bs in Dublin?

As the country's capital and one of the busiest cities in Europe, Dublin is home to a diverse array of accommodations, ranging from swanky 5-star hotels, to serviced apartments, to backpacker hostels and guesthouses. Bed-and-breakfasts are also very much a part of the city's accommodation landscape, offering an intimate taste of Irish hospitality. Remember, though, that B&Bs and most other hotels in Dublin fill up fast – and cost more – during the peak summer months. You'll also see higher prices during popular events like the annual Saint Patrick's Day in March. Autumn and winter are the best times to snag bargains.

Top B&Bs in Dublin

Albany House is a highly rated B&B that's situated in the Georgian Quarter of the city centre. Its spacious and well-lit guestrooms provide a homey atmosphere, and with its complimentary Wi-Fi, this B&B offers great value for money. Wi-Fi is likewise free at the Durban Residence, which features cosy rooms, a quaint breakfast nook and an indoor pond. The Marilyn Mansion, a Victorian B&B in the neighbourhood of Rathgar, was built in the 1840s and exudes its own unique charm. Warm, earthy colours characterise each of its 15 guestrooms, and there's an open-air patio and terrace overlooking the verdant garden.

Where are the best areas for B&Bs in Dublin?

You'll find a good number of B&Bs scattered all around Dublin. Many of them are located in the town of Swords, a few kilometres north of Dublin Airport and close to the impressive Swords Castle, a structure dating back to the 1200s. You can also check out the suburb of Drumcondra, where you'll find Croke Park, one of the largest stadiums in Europe and a locale for sporting events since the late 1800s. Within Dublin's city centre you can choose from B&Bs that are within walking distance of attractions like the beautiful St Stephen's Green public park and the awe-inspiring campus buildings of Trinity College Dublin.

What are B&Bs like in Dublin?

Many of Dublin's B&Bs are housed in mansions, cottages and townhouses dating back to the Georgian and Victorian periods. Though they've been renovated and updated to incorporate modern features and amenities, they retain most of their original architectural details. A typical B&B in Dublin will have fewer than 15 guestrooms, though you'll find a few mansions that offer more than 20 or 30 guestrooms. Complimentary homemade breakfast is expected for B&Bs, but some establishments provide extra perks such as scones and cakes gratis in the afternoon. B&Bs with terraces or gardens where guests can relax and have tea al fresco aren't uncommon. Modern perks like Wi-Fi and self-serve laundry facilities are usually available for free.

How much do B&Bs typically cost in Dublin?

Rooms at B&Bs are usually much cheaper than those offered by large hotels, and this holds true in Dublin. B&Bs located in the city centre, close to major tourist attractions, tend to cost more than those in the suburbs – expect to shell out between €84 and €115 for a room in central Dublin. This isn't to say that all B&Bs outside the city centre are dirt cheap, but for the most part, they're a lot more affordable. Some B&Bs in the suburb of Rathgar, for example, charge around €39 to €68 a night, while a few in the town of Swords offer rooms from €60 to €180.
