Skegness Hotels

Anyone after a traditional British seaside holiday will find all the boxes ticked by Skegness. Perched on the Lincolnshire coast, it's a place of tranquil, throwback charm – think colourful deckhairs, donkey rides on the sandy beach, theme park rides and lively pubs. A day or so out amid the old Victorian architecture, amusement arcades and ice cream parlours will leave you feeling like the town's iconic mascot, the Jolly Fisherman.

Things to see

The top attraction here is undoubtedly Skegness Beach. It's been drawing holidaymakers for well over a century, and on a sunny day there's nothing like sitting on the yellow sands and taking in the lapping sea with an ice cream in hand. Of course, another way to take in this legendary slice of coastline is by ambling along Skegness Pier. As well as the panoramic views, the pier also offers amusements, bowling and plenty of traditional seaside snacks. Kids and adult animal lovers alike will love Natureland Seal Sanctuary, where you can get close to the orphaned and stranded seal pups nurtured there, as well as penguins, meerkats and dazzling tropical butterflies. Fancy thrills and spills? Go karts, dodgems and stomach-churning rollercoaster rides await at Fantasy Island theme park. And don't forget to look out for the Jolly Fisherman statue that's synonymous with Skeggy.

Hotels in Skegness

It'll come as no surprise that there are plenty of Skegness hotels situated by that long golden stretch of beach. These range from classic, cosy bed and breakfasts to larger guesthouses. Family-run and offering a warm welcome, these are totally in keeping with the quaint, traditional feel of the area. Many have bars and lounges where you can relax after a day at the beach, and you can enjoy complimentary internet access at some as well. And the best part is that attractions like the pier and Natureland are just a stroll away.

Where to stay

The city centre is really where you want to be staying when you're having a great getaway to this grand old resort town. Staying in a central hotel in Skegness means you can walk to the door from the train station, and you'll be surrounded by bars, shops and restaurants – not to mention the main event, Skegness Beach. You'll also see another great symbol of Skegness: the Diamond Jubilee Clock Tower, erected in honour of Queen Victoria and still standing proud today.

How to get to Skegness

If you're driving into Skegness, there are 2 main roads that will get you there – the A158 and the A52, and you'll find traffic should go smoothly (unless you happen to get caught behind the odd dawdling tractor). There are good train connections as well, with direct links to stations including Nottingham and Grantham, where you can get connecting trains to London. There is plenty of parking available in Skegness itself, which is just as well because you'll want to wander this quaint resort town on foot.
