Annecy Hotels

Nestled among the majestic French Alps, Annecy is a picture-perfect town centered around an imposing medieval chateau. With its narrow canals and waterways, fed by the crystal clear Lake Annecy, the city certainly lives up to its billing as the Venice of the Alps. In summer, visitors flock to the azure-blue lake to swim and sail, while its proximity to numerous ski resorts makes it an equally desirable destination in winter. Annecy is also a gastronomic paradise, with tempting treats on offer on every street corner. Family-run bakeries serve buttery brioche straight from the oven, while the town's ubiquitous ice cream shops offer velvet smooth Italian gelato in a mouthwatering array of flavors.

Things to see

With sections dating back to the 12th century, Annecy Castle is a true historical marvel. Its beautifully restored interior is now a museum - le musée-château d'Annecy – which hosts a rich collection ranging from medieval sculpture to contemporary art. If you're on a romantic break, a stroll across Amours Bridge is a must: local legend has it that if 2 lovers kiss here, they will remain together for life. Palais de l'Isle is one of the town's most iconic and historically fascinating sights. Located in the center of the Thiou canal, it has served variously as a Lord's residence, a court, a mint, and a jail. Just outside of town, breathtaking natural attractions await. Above the glistening Lake Annecy soars the majestic snow-capped peak of La Tournette. The climb to the top is bracing but straightforward, and the views are among the best in the region.
