Things to see in Alsergrund
First, visit the former home and practice of the famous Viennese psychologist at the Freud Museum. Take a peek into his personal life, with authentic pieces preserved just as they were in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and view a wealth of photographs and documents to discover more about the doctor. For a piece of Alsergrund’s musical side, watch an operatic, musical, or ballet production at the Volksoper. This opera house is a little smaller than Vienna’s other, grander, venues, but it lacks none of the finesse. The outside of the building, with “Volksoper” written in huge, red letters around its walls, is also sure to draw you in. The Votivskirche is a terrific example of Vienna’s impressive architecture. This church, in a neo-Gothic style, stands out with its twin pointed white spires. And visit the Strudlhofstiege at night for something truly magical, when these picturesque stone steps are lit up with glowing, globular lamps, to create an unforgettable scene.
