Best Ko Phi Phi Hotels

Ko Phi Phi Hotels

Cast adrift in the Andaman Sea between Phuket and Krabi, Thailand’s Ko Phi Phi islands are one of the most accessible patches of tropical paradise on earth. Lush mountains rise from the 6 islands of the archipelago, teeming and chattering with life. The sea bathing these islands is azure and warm, a hotbed of coral reef and marine life, meaning that diving and snorkelling here is a richly rewarded activity. In between the sea and mountains are glorious palm-fringed beaches.

Things to see

Popular Ton Sai Bay is the exuberant tourist strip. The beach here is lively and loud, with various beach bars and clubs to keep the party swinging. The environment however, is one of purely natural beauty, with swaying palm trees and undulating rock formations leading out to sea. For a more tranquil experience, head to Laem Tong in the north of the island. Here, brilliant white sand glitters invitingly, largely undisturbed by the crowds of the south. Alternatively, take a trip to Maya Bay, on a neighbouring island. This is the location from the film The Beach, and it looks even better in real life. The cove is encircled by towering limestone rocks, and the crystal-clear water offers incredible diving and snorkelling. If you’re up for some exercise, challenge yourself to the tough but short hike up to the Ko Phi Phi viewpoint, which affords magnificent views of the islands.

How to get to Ko Phi Phi

The Ko Phi Phi islands are located about equidistant between Phuket and Krabi on the Thai mainland. Both cities have airports; Phuket receives a large number of international flights, while Krabi mostly serves domestic airlines. From Phuket Airport, it takes about 45 minutes to reach the pier. Here, a cavalcade of speedboats and ferries queue up to take passengers to Ko Phi Phi. Speedboats offer a bumpy, fast ride, with a journey time of 90 minutes. The larger ferries are slower, but more comfortable. On the island, there is no motorised transport, so you’ll need ferry taxis to get around.
