Sankt Anton Am Arlberg Hotels

Long considered one of the best resorts in the Alps; Sankt Anton am Arlberg has some of the heaviest snowfall in Europe, blanketing the surrounding mountains with thick powdery snow. There's a speedy lift system with minimal queuing, so you can get plenty of time on the slopes, as well as excellent aprés-ski with glittering clubs and buzzing bars that come alive from the late afternoon onwards. With a mixture of older traditional buildings and newer luxury resorts, it's a charming town that's popular with hardcore skiers and family groups.

Things to see

With a relatively long winter season, generally running from early December to late April, Sankt Anton Am Arlberg attracts many intermediate to advanced skiers, although there are a few beginner's areas too. The resort boasts 94 chairlifts and cable cars, with over 200 km of snow runs, so even at peak season it doesn't feel crowded on the slopes. Galzig is one of the most popular runs, with 2,185 metres of smooth trails reached by shiny modern gondolas. Those after a tougher challenge can enjoy the Valluga trail, the top of which boasts a panoramic restaurant at 2,650 metres high, and there are wilder, but still safely patrolled routes to enjoy. Sankt Anton am Arlberg also boasts some world famous off-piste skiing which is only for the truly skilled, as well as facilities for snowboarding, tobogganing, cross country skiing, and curling. Out of season the resort is still a lively and popular destination, and the melted mountains are ideal for rock climbing. There's also plenty of summer fun including horse drawn sleigh rides, tennis courts, squash, and paragliding for the truly adventurous.
