Best Pas de la Casa Hotels

Pas de la Casa Hotels

Andorra may be a tiny country, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in thrills, thanks to titanic ski resorts like Pas de la Casa. This micro-state is rippled with spectacular Pyrenean terrain, meaning one of Europe’s smallest countries is able to offer some of the continent’s best skiing. Swoosh across pure white expressways of snow - on slopes that bathe in over 300 days of sun a year - before heading into Andorra’s towns to be warmed by the country's fiery Catalan culture.

Things to see

Its remote location - hidden in the depths of the Pyrenees - has kept the Pas de la Casa ski resort feeling fresh and unspoilt. You’ll love the sense of freedom that the Grandvalira Ski Area provides, as you explore its 200 kilometres of pistes and slalom along its challenging runs, which are dotted with spindly trees. Visit when the snow’s thinning, and you can haul yourself onto the muscular back of a magnificent horse, to gain a new perspective on the area’s spring and summer scenery. Splash through trickling mountain streams, and plod across fields perfumed by the scent of lavender, as you travel up to the mineral-rich waters of turquoise lakes like Les Abelletes. The high altitude means the ski season lasts longer here than anywhere else in Andorra, and it’s a pleasant surprise to find that your money also goes further than you’d expect. The country’s low taxes make filling your suitcase incredibly tempting, and if a little retail therapy is on the cards, then Andorra la Vella’s Avinguda Meritxell is the place to pick up a slick designer suit, some shimmering diamond jewellery, and some super-stylish sunglasses for the slopes.

Hotels in Pas de la Casa

Mighty beams of timber stretch across the roofs of the cosy hotels in Pas de la Casa, which flicker gently as guests warm around the welcoming open fireplaces below. The luxury spa options available here are just as inviting, giving you the chance to soak in the steam of a bubbling hot tub, just minutes after retiring from the slopes. The hotels offer free WiFi, regardless of your budget, which will keep you connected with the rest of the world from your room. You can spend any free time getting to know your fellow guests in the bar, or by sharing a coffee in the comfortable common areas that many of the low cost hotels in Pas de la Casa provide.

Where to stay

Pas de la Casa itself is perfectly located for skiers, hikers and mountain bikers, giving easy access to some of Andorra’s best scenery. The town lights up with a lively après ski as the slopes begin to empty, and you’ll quickly warm up while dancing at its pumping open-air bars, or while sawing into the juicy slabs of steak that its restaurants serve. If you’re looking for somewhere a little different, then the capital - Andorra la Vella - is a great option. Walk the city’s uneven cobbles, before stopping off at the pre-Romanesque Santa Coloma Church to see its cylindrical, stone bell-tower. Afterwards, fill up at a typical Catalan restaurant, where you'll find coca pizza and caramel-topped Crema Catalana desert on the menu.

How to get to Pas de la Casa

This landlocked micro-state is easier to get to than you might think, as it’s served by several large airports - Girona, Barcelona, Toulouse and Perpignan – which are all around 3 hours away. A daily bus service departs from Toulouse airport and railway station, making it possible to ski in Andorra without needing to rent a car.
