Tignes Hotels

Who says skiing has to be a winter sport? Tignes’s high-altitude glacier rewrites the rulebook, letting you feel a swell of excitement in your belly as you buckle your snow boots before trying some surreal summer skiing. During the ski season, Val d’Isère’s snow-sure slopes are also close by, and they beg you to test your skills on the Tarentaise Valley’s many thrilling descents and twisting trails. The two resorts team up through L'espace Killy Ski Area, which lets you follow in the ski tracks of three-time gold medal winner, Jean-Claude Killy, who leant his name to the collection of more than 300 kilometres of high-quality pistes.

Things to see

Soar across swathes of crisp white snow, or rely on instinct and agility to skirt heart-stoppingly close to tree trunks as you burn your own off-piste trail at this yawningly wide ski area. Tignes has an extra jewel in its crown in the form of La Grande Motte glacier, where you can get your adrenaline kicks at a dizzying altitude. Afterwards, come back down to earth, and bronze in the summer sun’s warm glow beside a sparkling hotel pool. If the skiing starts to take its toll, you can always freshen up with a soak in the regenerative mountain waters at Val d'Isère’s Centre Aquasportif. Let the kids expend some energy by splashing in the cascading water that spills from the pool's fountains, while you unwind in the hazy glow of infrared saunas, or cool off with some gentle lengths of the lake-like leisure pool.

Hotels in Tignes

The community feel and high quality accommodation, keeps international visitors coming back to the hotels in Tignes and Val d'Isère year after year. While the older buildings here undoubtedly nod to Le Corbusier’s brutalist architectural ideas, the newer hotels - in Val d'Isère in particular - have really softened the aesthetic. Enjoy the luxury pampering that’s waiting inside a 5-star hotel roofed with attractive timber beams, or try the peace of a secluded chalet, which lets you enjoy a private, flower-tangled balcony. With free WiFi, flat-screen televisions, and in-room heaters widely available, you’ll feel at home in no time.

Where to stay

Choosing between Tignes and Val d’Isere is never an easy task, but don’t fret about the decision for too long - both are superb, iconic Alpine offerings. Tignes isn’t far behind, but Val d'Isère’s après-ski is as good as it gets, and the town never looks better than it does at night, when its main thoroughfare of snow glows gold beneath the glittering fairy lights in the trees. Get a little more extreme at Tignes, which is home to high-octane winter sports. Regular shows are held in the sculpted snow park, where you’ll involuntarily hold your breath as snowboarders flip effortlessly through the air, before casually landing daring stunts. Feel the rush for yourself, as you hit a ramp at speed, and your feet leave the safety of the snow for the first time.

Save on transfer costs by taking a shared Snowbus or Altibus to the resorts, directly from the airport.
