A glossy shopping haven with Arabic flair, Seef Mall is one of the city’s most popular. Home to both Western and Middle Eastern brand name stores, it offers everything from men and women’s fashion, to cosmetics, home ware and electronics. Along with numerous eateries, the mall also features a colourful indoor amusement park. The historical Bab Al Bahrain building is the main gateway the bustling narrow streets of Manama Souk, in the older part of town. A bargain hunter’s hunting ground, the overflowing bazaar is an unrelenting sensory overload of spices, textiles, jewellery, perfumes, one-of-a-kind finds and more. Detailing thousands of years of history, the Bahrain National Museum is a must-visit. Its modern halls exhibit a trove of artefacts and information, with a focus on archaeology, the ancient Dilmun civilization, manuscripts and Bahrain’s pre-industrial past. Al Fateh Mosque is one of the largest on Earth. Crowned with a grand dome and towering twin spires, visitors are invited to tour its lavish interior.

A suburban portion of the city, Juffair is not short of lures either. Home to plenty of accommodation options, its busy commercial artery Al Shabab Road offers numerous chain eateries and brand stores. Its attractions include the Al Fateh Mosque, and the Al Murjan Centre shopping mall.

How to get to Manama

Manama is served by Bahrain International Airport, which sits a few kilometres away from the Central Business District on the island of Muharraq. The main international gateway to Bahrain, it’s well connected to destinations in the Middle East and Asia, and serves several European cities too. Once you’ve landed and browsed the tempting duty-free, it’s less than 30 minutes’ drive to Manama’s centre in a taxi. It’s also possible to get to the city by bus. The Saudi Bahraini Transport Company operates services from Dammam, which make a stop at Khobar in Saudi Arabia, before continuing on to central Manama.
