Hanoi Hotels

The colorful and buzzing city of Hanoi is full of narrow, winding streets, where moped riders and cyclists zip around. Although traditional styles dominate most areas of the city, there’s also a lot of modern architecture, with many large corporations trading from gleaming high-rise buildings. In-between these busy areas you’ll find large areas of parkland where you can escape from the noise and enjoy the city’s more natural side.

Things to see

Hoàn Kiếm Lake is central to life in Hanoi and is a great way to escape from the busy city streets. Along the banks of the calm waters, you’ll find locals doing tai chi, souvenir stalls, and photographers taking in the natural beauty of the area. The Thang Long Water Puppet Theater offers a unique way to appreciate the traditional Vietnamese art of water puppetry. You’ll see colorful performances backed by traditional music, and modern special effects to make an exciting show. The Dong Xuan Market is a covered market with distinctive pink, domed roofs. In this unique structure you’ll find market stalls piled high with fruits and vegetables, racks of clothing, and carts selling enticingly spicy Vietnamese dishes. The Giang Vo Exhibition Center is marked by a giant red arch at its entrance, and inside you’ll find indoor and outdoor exhibition space for corporate and private events. Many business travelers will also find themselves at Vietnam National Convention Center which has modern facilities and a wide range of conference spaces. You’ll find a full calendar of events including seminars, exhibitions, performances, and parties, with the latest audiovisual equipment available.

Hotels in Hanoi

In the heart of the city you’ll find many high-rise luxury hotels in Hanoi, and there are plenty of extra features such as outdoor pools, full-service spas, health clubs, and swim-up bars. Business travelers will also find extras which could include business centers, meeting rooms, car services, and concierge assistance. Guestrooms are comfortable and plush, with extras such as down comforters, premium bedding, LCD televisions, bathrobes, designer toiletries, and high-speed internet. If you want to save cash, there are some cheap, traditional hotels just outside the center, where you can get a comfortable room with basic amenities such as coffee makers, ironing boards, and microwaves.

Where to stay

The Hoàn Kiếm district is home to the famous park, and surrounding the parklands you’ll find hundreds of corporate and bank headquarters, as well as quaint shopping streets where locals zip around on mopeds. The Tay Ho (West Lake) area is also colorful and traditional, with the large freshwater lake serving as a focal point for the upscale bars, restaurants, and hotels in the area. Dong Da is a great district for shopping, with colorful storefronts and unique boutiques, as well as plenty of well-manicured parkland.

How to get to Hanoi

Hanoi International Airport is in the north of the city, about 45 minutes from the center. From here you can pick up a public taxi or book a minibus. There is also a regular bus that runs from outside the terminal, taking about an hour to get to downtown. Hanoi Railway Station is conveniently located in the center of the city, and from here you can get trains to most Vietnamese districts, as well as direct trains to Beijing and other areas of China. Hanoi Giap Bat Station is a major hub for many bus routes, and buses from around the country arrive here on a regular basis.
