Lviv Hotels

Founded in the 13th century, Lviv in Western Ukraine boasts a rich heritage and a plentiful buffet for aficionados of art, music and theatre. Occupying the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List, its historic city centre is encrusted with grand architectural marvels, spanning Rococo, Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic styles. It’s not just a pretty façade however. Home to plethora of museums and galleries, a slew of buzzing festivals, a relaxed café culture and a rowdy nightlife, Lviv offers some of the best of the old and new.

Things to see

Also known as Rynok Square, Market Square is the city’s bustling centrepiece, home to an array of shops, restaurants and cafés. A tourist hotspot, meeting place for locals, and a stage for the city’s festivities, the rectangle plaza is lined with historic architecture. One of these structures, dating back to 1835, is the Lviv City Hall, the main hub of Lviv’s government. The building’s viewing tower provides panoramic views of the cityscape, and is open to visitors all year round. The Baroque majesty of the Dominican Church can be found just east of Market Square – and can’t be missed when it’s illuminated at night. Built in the 18th century with later additions and a facelift, the church’s interior is richly adorned with ornate fretwork and gilt embellishments. The Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet is another architectural masterpiece. Combining Renaissance and Baroque elements and decorated inside by a who’s who of Polish artists, the lavish venue hosts opera, ballet and theatrical performances.
