Find out more about Lodz

Lodz Hotels

Woven by a rich textile industry, Poland’s third-largest city is perhaps best known for its role during the Second World War, when it housed the second-largest Jewish ghetto in the country. Revamped and revitalized, nowadays Lodz is a centre for culture, nightlife, and Poland’s film industry. With its 19th century architecture, restored factories and lushly green spaces, the picturesque, cobbled streets boast a variety of modern lures. For those on a heritage hunt, the Jewish Cemetery makes for a moving visit.

Things to see

Having purchased the land in the late 1800’s, ‘Cotton King’ Karol Scheibler set about building the vast industrial-residential estate known as Priest’s Mill. Many of the buildings still survive today, serving as an immaculate example of post-industrial architecture. Edward Herbst Palace was the glamorous abode of Scheibler’s daughter and son-in-law, Edward Herbst. Built in the 19th century, the villa’s interiors are opulently adorned with Renaissance and Rococo design, and now house the Museum of the Manufacture Interiors and Art Gallery. Karol Scheibler’s grand mansion is now home to the Museum of Cinematography. Displaying a huge collection of film equipment and production paraphernalia from bygone eras, it tells the story of Polish cinema from the very opening. Occupying the restored redbrick shells of vast factory buildings, the modern Manufaktura complex packs a lot in. Alongside a cornucopia of restaurants and over 300 shops to splurge in, it features a cinema, bowling alley, fitness centre, and a culture hub with several museums.

Hotels in Lodz

There are hotels in Lodz to accommodate every visitor. From swish, modern abodes set within rugged industrial buildings, to shiny high-rise hotels, trendy urban loft apartments and familiar budget chain favourites. Most properties feature restaurants, business centres and fitness facilities, with swimming pools in the larger digs and saunas and hot tubs in the more upmarket. Whilst most of the city’s accommodation is affordable, there are plenty of cheap hotels in Lodz if you’re on a budget. Ranging from contemporary rental apartments to smart and simple budget hotels, the city offers superb value for money. In-room, you can expect satellite television and WiFi in most places.

Where to stay

Because most of the city’s attractions and amenities are situated centrally, a hotel in Lodz’s city centre makes the most sense. For anything further afield such as the Jewish Cemetery and Botanical Garden, the city’s bus services can get you there cheaply and efficiently. Adorned with elegant 19th century architecture, the heart of Lodz is Piotrkowska Street, the city’s main artery. Stretching for almost 5 kilometres, here you’ll find a vast choice of shops, restaurants, cafes and night spots, as well as several art galleries and museums. If walking the street’s length is a somewhat daunting prospect, rickshaws make a fun and speedy alternative.

How to get to Lodz

Lodz is served by Lodz Wladyslaw Reymont Airport, situated 6 kilometres from the city centre. It provides connections to a handful of European destinations, including London, Dublin, Munich, Paris and Rome. Once you’ve landed a taxi can whisk you to your accommodation in just a few short minutes, whilst some hotels provide airport pick-ups with prior arrangement. Lodz is also reachable by train. Lodz Kaliska railway station near the city centre is linked to most Polish cities, whilst Lodz Widzew railway station towards the east of the centre, is well-connected to Warsaw.
