Gdansk Hotels

Since being almost completely destroyed in World War 2,Gdansk has grown into one of the top holiday resorts on the shimmering blue of the Baltic Sea. The city’s Old Town is a jewellery box of cobbled streets, Gothic buildings and a glut of high-end restaurants and bars. The largely rebuilt architecture remains completely true to the original buildings in the area, and are somewhat reminiscent of the colourful sea front buildings of Venice. With a rich historical tapestry, as well as miles of enticing coastline, there is plenty to do whilst enjoying your stay.

Things to see

Between tight rows of vibrantly coloured, spired buildings, Old Town is where many of the main tourist attractions are located. The Neptune Fountain, a tribute to the patron saint of the city, is set on in the Long Market or Dlugi Targ, and serves as a firm reminder of the area's affinity with the surrounding seas. Wandering further into the city you will uncover the Church of St Mary, with its elevated, white marble colonnades reaching high into the ceiling. The nearby Artus Court is resplendent with glistening, arch fronted buildings, and feeds off into surrounding narrow streets and waterways. If you want a comprehensive lesson of the city’s buildings, then head to the Museum of Archaeology, which recounts the strenuous rebuilding process in Poland after the devastation of World War 2. After a heavy day of sightseeing, hit the nearby Stogi Beach which is resplendent with fine, golden sands and inviting seas.

Where to stay

The majority of the city’s hotels, from 5-star luxury to the more basic offerings, are to be found in and around the Old Town. From your hotel window, marvel at the unique architecture as the sun sets, with the sparkling lights of the city dancing in the distance as the city unwinds for the night. The Old Town itself is in touching distance of the river as well as the best restaurants and bars. If you want to be closer to the coast and within walking distance of the sea, there are options north of the city centre towards the neighbouring cities of Sopot and Gdinya, ideal for day trips and a change of scenery.

How to get to Gdansk

The Lech Wałęsa Airport is 12 kilometres away from the city of Gdansk and is the main point of entry for all travellers heading to the city. There is a connecting bus service that that leaves at regular intervals and takes you to the centre of Gdansk from where you can get a taxi to your hotel. Gdansk is also part of a 3 city conurbation, with bus routes connecting the nearby Sopot and Gdinya, meaning you can travel between all 3 to your own schedule.
